Obituary for Barbara Herring (Gast)

Barbara Ann Herring, 89, of Daleville, Virginia, passed away peacefully in the evening on May 13th of natural causes. She was surrounded by her husband, Ron, and two children, Diane and David.

Born on August 28, 1933, Barbara grew up in Sandusky, Ohio. She had a natural talent for all forms of dance, and when in high school, taught tap-dancing, ballet, and ballroom dance, particularly popular at the time. It was at the dance studio where she taught, where she met her husband, Ron, who was seeking dance lessons to be able to dance better at the high school prom. She was his instructor, and they had an immediate connection, which lasted nearly 70 years.

Dancing was put aside for her family. Barbara modestly listed her occupation as “Homemaker” - a catch-all title for many moms, which is very understated. She was more specifically described as wife, mom, CEO, CFO, COO, social director, chauffer, chef, gardener, laundress, seamstress, housekeeper, teacher, nurse and vet.

A particularly kind person, Barbara always had something nice to say about everyone. Her family is grateful to know that she is at peace – and is once again dancing.

On Saturday, May, 27th at 11:00 am; a memorial service, followed by a reception, will be held at St. Philip Lutheran Church, 8115 Williamson Rd., Roanoke, VA 24019 - the family welcomes friends.
