Obituary for Benjamin Vassar

Benjamin Michael Vassar, age 34, of Roanoke, VA, left this world too early and reached his perfect home on July 7, 2020. He was survived by fiancé Brandi Hylton, children Alexis “Star” Vassar, Damon “Da-Da” Vassar, Elyssia “Sky” Vassar, Bentley “Bent-Bent” and stepdaughter Nerissa “L’il Mouse” Nunley.
He was the beloved son of John Randolph Vassar, Sr, and Norma VanDyke Vassar and brother to John R. Vassar, Jr, (Patricia Vassar), Christy Nodes (Donald Nodes), Sophia Vassar (Anthony Tolliver) and Tabitha Serfass (fiancé Brian Haston).
Special nieces and nephews include Desiree (Wyatt), Nathaniel, John III, Nicholas, Jacob, Kaleb, Sierra, Samantha (Dylan), Laurelin, Emily, Angelica “Kid Sis” (Daryl), Dallas, Gary “Tré”, Brayden, Peyton and Ethan; and special great nieces Riley, Charity, and Royalty.
Benjamin was preceded in death by fraternal grandparents Basil Moorefield Vassar and Nannie Foster Vassar, and maternal grandparents Elmer Coy VanDyke and Sarah Charity VanDyke.
He was born in Lynchburg, VA, on November 19, 1985, and attended William Byrd High School, graduating with his GED.
Benjamin worked as a Self-Employed Home Improvement Contractor. His hobbies and interests included remote controlled cars, drawing, photography, and cooking. He was a lover of Mickey and Minnie Mouse and his mamma’s chocolate cake.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 2pm at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel. Reverend Ronald Turner will be officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Monday, July 13, 2020 at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel. Graveside services will be private.
