Obituary for Betty Figgatt

On Friday, May 19th, 2023, Betty Greer Figgatt (Grannie) went home to be with the Lord. Her passing is felt with deep loss among her family and anyone who met her.

To know Grannie was to love her and be cared for by her. Grannie was a compassionate woman, who always selfishly gave to others even when she didn’t have that much to give. Grannie brought so much light into this world. Her house was always home to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Grannie enjoyed spending time in the kitchen cooking and sharing her recipes with anyone that dared to try and duplicate her masterpieces. She brought beauty to several occasions, places, and people with her incredible flower arrangements, all made by hand and meticulously placed based on the vision in her mind. Many of her weeknights and weekends were spent supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all of their various extra curriculars, from sporting events to band concerts, dance recitals, and everything in between. Grannie was a strong-willed, independent woman far beyond her time and her loss is felt far and wide.

She began her journey of life on October 16, 1937, in Ashe County North Carolina, daughter to the late Lester and Annie Greer. After moving to Roanoke, Virginia she married her high school sweetheart William (Bill) Edward Figgatt in 1954 and they were married for 42 years. She lived in Jacksonville, Florida most of her life where she retired from Terminal Paper Bag in 1998 after 31 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oceanway.

Preceded in death by her parents and her husband William (Bill) Figgatt, her mother-in-law France Figgatt, her sister Gloria Thompson, 2 Brothers Charles Greer, and Bill Greer
