Obituary for Betty LeGard (Lyle)

Betty Lacy Lyle LeGard, 82, of Roanoke, Va. went home to the Lord on Friday, March 10, 2023, with her three daughters by her side.
Betty was born February 25, 1941, in Waynesboro, Va. daughter of the late William J. Lyle Jr. and the late Otey Moorman Lyle. She graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1959 and went on to attend Marion Junior College in Marion, Va. She received her Registered Nursing Degree from Roanoke Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Roanoke, Va. in 1963.

After taking many years off from nursing to raise her three daughters, Betty returned to work as an RN at Roanoke Orthopedic Center, and then Lewis Gale Medical Center in Behavioral Health. She was recognized as a valuable member of the staff at both locations and was loved by both her colleagues and her patients.

Some of Betty’s favorite things were being outside in her garden, long drives on the Blue Bridge Parkway, and walking on the beach and picking up shells. She especially loved being with her family and grandchildren. She was also a member of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, William J. Lyle III.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Lacy Michelle LeGard, Renee LeGard Wagner (Chris), and Nicole LeGard Lenderking (Troy), plus her five grandchildren, Hunter LeGard (Kassidy), Chase Wagner, Katie Clark Wagner, Finn Wagner, and Jack Lenderking.

Her daughters would like to thank Brookdale Roanoke and Good Samaritan Hospice of Roanoke for the care and genuine love for their mother. She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel, 318 Church Ave, SW, Roanoke, Va. The Funeral service and interment will be held on June 24, 2023, at the family church, Briery Presbyterian Church, 181 Briery Road, Keysville, VA 23947.
