Obituary for Betty Lewis Watkins

Betty Lewis Watkins, 87, of Roanoke, VA, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021.

She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Charles M. Watkins; son, Gayland Watkins; siblings, Ginny, Erskin, Dale, Sam, and LaWanna; and a step great-grandson, Steven Wayne Watkins.

Remaining here on Earth to treasure Betty’s memory is her son, Charles Watkins, Jr. (Jeanette) of Yukon, OK; daughter, Donnita Mathena (Gary) of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Charles Watkins, III (Lisa) of Odessa, TX, Laura Kincheloe of Odessa, TX, Teresa Alleman (Jeremy) of Yukon, OK, Kema Clinton (Justin) of Odessa, TX, Leah Zealand (Mike) of Forest, VA, and Rebecca Souza (Jarrod) of Arrington, TN; great-grandchildren, Noah Watkins, Steven Watkins, Trevor Kincheloe, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, Caleb Stine, Blake Stine (Kassidy), Catie Alleman, Reagan Alleman, Jacob Alleman, Brynn Clinton, Raelyn Clinton, Emma Seay (Shaefer), Izabel Zealand, Ava Zealand, Olivia Zealand, Lily Souza, Jett Souza, Ruby Souza, and Oliver Souza; and great-great-grandchildren, Cambree and Ashton.

Betty was a native and long-time Oklahoman, though her life’s journey included time spent living in Texas and Virginia as well. She married just two weeks shy of her 17th birthday and was blessed to enjoy 47 years with her loving husband, Charles, before his passing in 1997. Together they were actively involved in their church and enjoyed participating in a bowling league for many seasons. Betty’s family points out decisively, though, that her greatest purpose in life was as a caregiver and provider for others. She worked in the nursery at church and devoted countless hours to helping with Meals on Wheels. Betty would send frequent care packages in the mail to her grandkids when they were in college. She spent many days playing games on the floor with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was always in a giving frame of mind, and especially liked doting on her family.

A funeral service will be held at Ingram, Smith, & Turner Mortuary at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2021 with Rev. Harold Mathena and Rev. Gary Mathena officiating. Interment will follow in Yukon Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2021 at Ingram, Smith, & Turner Mortuary.
