Obituary for Byron Smith

Byron Doyle Smith, 49, of Troutville, VA, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2022. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy E. Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Luljeta (Luli) Smith, to whom he was married for 24 years; children, Melina Smith, Aiden Smith and Morgan Smith; father, Ronald Smith; sisters, Drema McClung and Jenniffer Johnson.

Byron was born on September 28, 1972, graduated from Liberty High School and continued on to take general studies classes at Virginia Western Community College, then transferred to Radford University to pursue studies in psychology, and then at Community College of the Air Force. He completed an Associates of Applied Science Computer Electronics Technology from the ECPI Technical College in 1999 and Associates of Business Administration from Baker College in December of 2006.

He worked for 20 years as a project manager at Allstate Insurance Company and one year as a phone operator at VDOT. He loved organizing family activities and spending time with his family, taking care of his children. Byron was a nature SME and his childhood dream had been to be a park ranger. He enjoyed running, jogging, long walks, hikes on the parkway and various local trails. He loved to observe birds and could name them by their sound, and could tell the history of their origin. He would study plants and learn their medicinal benefits and was an avid news researcher and loved reading and improving the mind. He was a supporter of the Ronald McDonald House and Unicef.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel, 627 Hardy Rd, Vinton, Va. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, March 25 at the funeral home. Pastor Timothy Dooley will officiate. Burial will follow at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens, 7271 Cloverdale Rd, Roanoke, VA, 24019. Online condolences may be expressed at www.oakeys.com.
