Obituary for Charles "Tom" Jennings

Charles Thomas Jennings "Tom", 85 of Roanoke, VA, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 25, 2020 after battling cancer off and on for over 11 years. He was a true warrior and never gave up the fight! Tom was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Jennings; mother, Gladys Marshall Jennings and sister Mary Anne Lawson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 56 years, Emma Jean Mitchell, his children Rhonda Jennings-Arey (husband, Wesley Arey, Sr.) and Mike Jennings (wife, Kellie Batchelor Jennings); grandchildren, Ryan Jennings, Catherine "Nikki" Stevenson and Grace Jennings; great-grandson, Jason Panzino; step-grandchildren, Heather Murrell, Lesha Arey, and Wesley Arey, Jr.; step-great grandchildren, Reygan Shires, Zaylah Williams and Dareyon Williams, and his beloved siblings, Joe Paul Jennings, Marvin Lee Jennings, Gladys Elizabeth Holcomb, and Geneva Gay Linscott.

Tom was known for his love of family and generosity of spirit. He coached for over 30 years and touched the lives of three (3) generations of kids. He was actively involved in the Mt. Pleasant Rec. Club.
Tom proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy (1952-1955) and U.S. Navy Reserves from 1955-1960.
He worked for Tultex for over 30 years and retired. Then he went to work for Kroger for 15+ years and retired again. He was a hard worker and didn't believe in missing work!

Hobbies included: Bowling, watching NASCAR, a big sports fan and was a great handyman.

Visitation will be held from 2pm-4pm, Sunday, September 27, 2020, at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel. Private services will be conducted at Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA, at a later date.
