Obituary for Correnia Summers

Correnia H. Summers of Roanoke, Virginia, died on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at the age of 87. She will be sorely missed by the many people by whom she was loved.

Correnia graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1952 and from Roanoke College in 1956. She taught school in Roanoke County and in Norfolk, Virginia. She was a lifelong member of Fairview United Methodist Church where she served as organist and choir director from 1953 until her death. Many will fondly remember her entertaining in her home on holidays, especially her choir parties at Christmastime.

Correnia taught piano lessons for many years and was a member of The American Guild of Organists. She sang in the Roanoke Valley Chorus, The Virginia Choral Society, the Bach Chorale, The Thursday Morning Music Club Chorus, and others.

Correnia was preceded in death by her parents, Julius Thomas and Eleanor V. Henderson, and by her daughter, Ann Elizabeth Summers.
She is survived by her son Timothy Summers and his wife, Diane Summers, and their children, Dylan Renee Summers and Corey Hannah Summers. Her grandchildren affectionately referred to her as Noona.

A visitation is planned from 2 until 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel, Downtown, Roanoke. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 8, 2021, at Sherwood Memorial Park. Those attending these functions are asked to respect the family’s wishes to protect the health and safety of themselves and others by social distancing and wearing masks.
