Obituary for Dorothy "Jean" Spangler (Harris)

Dorothy “Jean” Spangler, 90, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, May 9, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Spangler; her son, Wayne Spangler; her parents, Frank and Cynthia Harris; her sisters, Hazel Craighead and Frankie McNett; and her brother, James “Pete” Harris.

Jean is survived by her children, Nancy Kidd (Donnie), Dean Spangler, and Linda Bristow (Victor); her grandchildren, Nora Eanes, Donnie Kidd Jr., Lacey Beheler (Billy), Alex Bristow (Jackie), Steve Spangler (Kim), and Joshua Spangler; many great and great-great-grandchildren; special niece, Barbara Hendrick; numerous nieces and nephews; and close friends, Carol and Gladys.

Jean graduated from Bedford High School. She served many years as a waitress and retired with her last position at Red Lobster. Her passions were her family and her home. Jean kept an immaculate house. She loved her family and friends and if you were a friend, you were family. Jean loved her church and bible study at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church.

The Funeral Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021, at Oakey’s North Chapel with Pastor Matt Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2021, at the funeral home.
