Obituary for Edgar O'Brien Jr.

Edgar Allen O’Brien Jr., of Roanoke, passed away on, Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the age of 92.  He was born Jan 12, 1931, to Edgar and Kathryn O’Brien. 

He was proceeded in death his parents, Edgar and Kathryn O’Brien; his brother, Jerry; his sons, Eddie and Patrick O’Brien; as well as devoted companion and love, Anne Robinson.

Ed was a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn; son and his wife, John and Kristin O’Brien; grandchildren, Anthony, Ramie, Chandler, Sarah, and Anna. He was loving uncle to his niece, Kelly; and nephews, Tom, Larry and Callan; and a devoted cousin to Ron and Kitty Pendleton. He is also survived by devoted friends, John and Francene Turner.

Ed was an Air Force pilot in the Korean War which allowed him to travel the world and forge a love for flight and adventure that lasted a lifetime.

An avid outdoorsman, Ed was a member of the Westwood hunt club in Bath County for over 60 years. A relationship which allowed him to build bonds that continue today. His love of hunting and fishing may have been only surpassed by his love of hot sauce and hot peppers.

Once retired, Ed devoted countless hours volunteering at Carilion Roanoke Memorial and was recognized for his service there.

A visitation will be from 10am until noon on Friday, March 17th at Oakey’s South Chapel followed by a graveside service at 2PM at the Montvale Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Pastor Chip Baggett officiating and Military Honors provided by the US Air Force.
