Obituary for Ruth Marsh (Wertz)

Elizabeth Wertz Marsh passed away on Friday, January 29, 2021 in her home at Woodland Hills in Roanoke, Virginia, after a short illness.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Salem Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 161. She spent her adult life bringing beauty to the Roanoke area with floral arrangements from Wertz Florist, which was founded by her father, F. L. Wertz in 1911.

As the youngest child of Eliza and Frank L. Wertz, she was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, James Wertz (Barbara), Gladys Wiseley (Albert), and Margaret Aldridge (Glenn). In 2015, she lost her husband of over 70 years, George W. Marsh Jr.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Barry L. and Becky Marsh; grandson, Brian Marsh (Amy); great-granddaughter, Emory Marsh; granddaughter, Ainsley Moyer (Kurtis) and great-grandsons, Grant, Brody and Bradley Moyer; step great-grandsons, Harry and Andy Moyer; and her beloved cat, Jackson.

The Marsh family extends their sincere appreciation to the Woodland Hills staff and Elizabeth’s special friends who lovingly called her “Lizzy.” Everyone will always remember her love of winning at BINGO and her favorite beverage, R E D.

A private family graveside service was held at Evergreen Burial Park on Thursday, February 4, 2021 with the Reverend Andrew Whaley from Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church officiating.

To honor Elizabeth’s love of animals, donations in her memory may be made to Angels of Assisi, 415 Campbell Ave., Roanoke, VA 24016.
