Ernest Jennings Hopkins, 96, of Rockbridge County, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie & Bernice Hopkins; infant twin sisters; sister, Margaret Ikenberry; brothers, Robert & Lewis Hopkins. Ernest served in the United States Navy during World War II as a Navy Aviator & then served in the Navy Reserves. Ernest loved to read philosphy, was a master gardener & enjoyed restoring his 1770 home and property. Surviving are his wife, Jutta; children, Gary Hopkins (Donna); Karen Gmiterko (Greg) & Lisa Clow (Ron); grandchildren, Sarah, Ian, Jordan, Dylan, Jackie, Michael & Ben; two great-grandchildren; his furry companion, Teddy & numerous cherished nieces & nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020 at Evergreen Burial Park with Rev. Anthony Nix officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice.
