Obituary for Fannie Ellis

August 20, 1938 – July 27, 2022

Fannie Ellis, 83, of Roanoke, Virginia, left this world peacefully on Wednesday, July 27, 2022.

She was born in 1938 in Henry County, Va. to Jack Arthur and Frances Doss Arthur Walker, both deceased. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lucille Arthur Newman of Bassett.

She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, George A. Ellis Sr. of Roanoke; her stepchildren, George A. Ellis Jr. (Katrina) of Hardy, Tammy Slay (Richard) of Bonifay, Florida, Robin Darden (Eric) of Bonifay, Florida, Michelle Ellis (Stephanie) of Juneau, Alaska, and Donna Ellis (Sandy) of St. James City, Florida; a sister, Gladys Long (Johnnie) of Hurt; brother, Earl Arthur (Betty) of Bassett; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Fannie was a very caring and giving Mom and Nana. What made her so special is she chose to be. She was a lady with a gentle soul. Fannie was never one to be in the spotlight but was always there for the family. She had a very sweet spirit. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

A Funeral Service will be conducted at 12 noon on Monday, August 1, 2022, at Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel-Downtown. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
