Obituary for Frances Lowe (Campbell)
Frances Nadine Campbell Lowe of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023. She was the wife of the late David S. Lowe.
Born on January 10, 1924, in Roanoke County, Va., she was the daughter of Lloyd W. Campbell and Alice Black Campbell. For many years she was a member of first, Red Hill Baptist Church, then Grandin Court Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lowe graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1940. During World War II she worked at the Hercules Powder Plant in Dublin, Va., sewing powder bags. She retired from Norfolk Southern Railway in the Accounting Department after 41 years. She was a member of the National Association of Railway Business Women where she developed many special friendships working on community welfare projects.
Frances Nadine enjoyed sewing and could and would make everything. During the pandemic, she made and gave away hundreds of beautiful masks. She enjoyed flowers and the many blooms in her yard. She loved to cook and was famous for her pound cakes.
She was predeceased by her parents; her daughter, Lucy Lowe; her son, Chuck Lowe; her brothers, Clyde, Bill, Dean, and Lloyd Campbell; and sister, Catherine Burdette.
She is survived by her daughter and her son-in-law, Emily and David Helms of Lynchburg, Va., and two granddaughters, Sarah H. Reynolds (Mark) of Charlotte, NC, and Kimberly Lowe of Roanoke. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Luke, and Sam Reynolds and Eva, Arie-Jan, and Thijs Arbouw. Surviving siblings are Nancy Walrond of Virginia Beach, Va., Butch Campbell (Carol) of Roanoke, and Ann Osbourne (Jim) of Hardy, Va., and many nieces and nephews, the youngest being Sophia who has big brown eyes like her Aunt Nadine. Also surviving are her friends and frequent visitors, Peggy Hartman and Terri Moore Lewis.
The family wishes to thank the kind caretakers of Guggenheimer Health and Rehab and Centra Hospice for her care during her last months.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 30, 2023, at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, Va. With Dr. Kevin Meadows officiating.
