Obituary for Frances Lucille Beckner Obenchain

Frances Lucille Beckner Obenchain, 96, of Vinton went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 28, 2023. She was born May 4, 1927, to the late Peter Samuel Beckner and Annie Shirley Beckner and was predeceased by her husband, William E. (Bill) Obenchain and her son, William E. (Billy) Obenchain, Jr.

She was also predeceased by brothers, William Beckner, Bob Beckner, Jim Beckner, Paul Beckner, John Beckner and sisters, Virginia Beckner, Marie Casey, Aileen Thompson, and Laurna Mundy.

Frances was a long-time member of Vinton Baptist Church, where she enjoyed working in Vacation Bible School during retirement. Frances (known to many as Mrs. “O”) loved the Vinton community, where she owned and operated Obenchain’s Flowers from 1952 – 1999.

Survivors include her son, Randy Obenchain (Terry) of Vinton, daughter Alice M. Obenchain-Leeson (Dale) of Daleville, daughter-in-law Karen L. Obenchain of Vinton; two grandsons, Jeremy R. Obenchain (Samantha), Zachary R. Obenchain (Amanda) of Vinton, and granddaughter Marcy O. Keller (Tommy) of Bel Aire, Maryland. Frances is also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A very special thank you to special friend Louise Agee, Pastor Louis Glockner (Forgotten People Ministries) and the staff at Woodhaven Nursing Home for their love and care of Frances.

A service celebrating Frances’ life will be conducted at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel with Dr. R. Chris Monroe officiating. A private burial will follow. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Oakey’s Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vinton Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
