Frances Hypes Rhodes died Sunday, March 5, 2023 at age 98. She is survived by her daughter Sally Rhodes Ahner of Nashville, TN; her son Harry Spencer Rhodes and wife Becky Oliver Rhodes of Roanoke, VA; her son Clifton Edward Rhodes and wife Lynette Tarkington Rhodes of Cary, NC; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Frances survived her husband, Alan Lockwood Rhodes, her sister Lois Eloise Hypes, and her brother Lewis Clifton Hypes.

Frances retired from VDOT as an administrative assistant, and she lived in South Roanoke Nursing Home for six years. She was a member of Methodist churches throughout her life including Woodlawn UMC.  Music was the center of her life, and she sang in church choirs, in the Caroloa Chorus, was a member of the Thursday Morning Music Club, and attended the Roanoke Symphony.

The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 17 at South Oakey’s preceded by visitation beginning at 10 a.m.  A graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodlawn UMC, 2922 Corbieshaw SW, Roanoke, VA 24015.
