March 21, 1946 – May 7, 2023

 Garry Wayne Newbold, 77, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023.

He was born in Carbondale, Ill., on March 21, 1946, to his parents, Wilma and Kenneth Newbold, who preceded him in death.

Garry is survived by his wife, Bonnie Newbold; sons, Scott and his fiancée, Christa Viliborghi, and Douglas and his wife, Jennifer; his grandchildren, Brandon Keyser Newbold, Morgan and Lauren Newbold; four great-grandchildren; sister, Carole Starling; sisters-in-law; stepbrother; stepsister and brother-in-law; his nieces and nephews; and his very special friends in “the hood.”

Garry served in Vietnam with the United States Air Force. Following the Air Force, he was a member of The Roanoke City Police Force, employed by The Roanoke Psychiatric Center, Telemedia Corporation, and by the State of Virginia with Catawba Hospital. After 9/11 Garry joined the Virginia Defense Force.

Garry “Pappy” was a wonderful Husband, Father, Uncle, and family man. He loved helping others. Garry enjoyed boating and fishing.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Haran Baptist Church, 7539 Old Bent Mountain Road SW, Roanoke, Va. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
