Obituary for George Conner

George Willard “G.W.” Conner of Roanoke, Va. passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s. He was 87.



G.W. was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Roxie Conner; his brothers, Warren (Julia) and Perry (Clara Mae); his sister, Beulah Richardson (Ralph); and a very special nephew, Gerry Lemons.



He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Mary Ann; his son, George L. “Lenny;” his daughter, Dianne Carr (Calvin); his sisters-in-law, Peggy Hill and Carol Lemons (Roy); his brother-in-law, Lloyd Brammer (Dianna); and numerous nieces and nephews.



G.W. loved the Lord and his church family. He joined Laurel Ridge Primitive Baptist Church in November of 1962 and was baptized in December of 1962. G.W. served as deacon for 60 years.



He retired from Appalachian Power Company after 32 years of service. G.W. loved his family very much. Humor and laughter were a big part of his life. He enjoyed antiquing, traveling, and his Florida home for 15 years. G.W. was an artist who created beautiful gardens throughout his lifetime.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Oakey’s Vinton Chapel with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be private.
