Obituary for George Curry Jr.

On Wednesday, July 8, 2020, George P. “PawPaw” Curry Jr., of Roanoke, Virginia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior. After fighting the fight against vascular dementia.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Margaret “Peggy” Curry; mother, Atlas Curry; grandson and best buddy, James R. Stultz III.

Left behind to treasure his memory are his daughter, Beth Stultz and husband, Bubba; granddaughter, Meagan Henry and husband, David; granddaughter, Heather Stultz; and many other beloved family members and friends.

George was active in his church and loved working with the youth and children and was an Awana leader for years. He loved to sing and would travel to other churches in the area and specifically loved, “The King is Coming.”

George was a member of the skating community and would skate and judge skating both speed and figure at Star City Skating Rink. He was a Mason and was also a part of the Kazim Temple Shrine Clowns and worked the circus many years as “Big Willy.” He loved to bring joy and happiness to everyone. His grandchildren were his everything and would do anything for anyone. He loved life and his family.
A special thanks and much love to Gentle Shepherd Hospice for all of their love and care not only for George but for our family. To Mindy Eisner for all of her love, support and care for all of us. And to Janet Weiss for her love, care, and devotion during his last days without them we could not have kept him home with his family.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 13th at Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14th at Green Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Moser officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
