Obituary for Helen Norfleet

Helen Lancaster Norfleet, 96, of Roanoke, VA, also known as “Nannie” went peacefully to be with the Lord surrounded by her family on Friday, November 20, 2020. Helen was a lifelong member of Penn Forest Wesleyan Church where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years. Helen devoted her life to being a homemaker, a loving and faithful wife, a wonderful mother, an exceptional Nannie, and a wonderful friend. Helen enjoyed crocheting and making quilts. Helen was an exceptional cook and was known for her famous pound cakes. Helen loved to eat her snacks and should have won an award for her exceptional gum chewing. Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Willard R. Norfleet, daughter, Shirley Ann Norfleet, parents, Alice & John Lancaster, sisters Evelyn Bell, Doris Craft, and Hazel Jordan, brother, Frank Lancaster. Left to honor and cherish her memory are her son and daughter-n-law, Michael and Connie Norfleet, of Roanoke; very special granddaughter Julie Norfleet Parsons and husband, Todd of Salem; grandson, Travis Norfleet of Salem; two great-granddaughters, Macie Katherine-Thomas Parsons and Marley Elizabeth-Grace Parsons, of Salem; her best friend of 65 years MaryLou Turner Adams, of Salem; and several nieces. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25,2020, at Emmanuel Wesleyan Church ,402 Hershberger Rd NW, Roanoke, VA, with the Rev. Gregory D Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Roanoke, VA. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Oakey’s Downtown Roanoke Chapel.
