Obituary for James "Jim" Clark

James “Jim” Clark, 78, of Roanoke, Virginia, formerly of Sayre, Pennsylvania passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Jean Clark; his sister, Cheryl Chamberline; his brother, Joseph Clark; and his furbaby, Maggie.

Jim served his country as a United States Marine in Vietnam.  He moved to the Roanoke Valley from Pennsylvania in 1971.  Jim worked in mechanical design for ITT Night Vision until his retirement. He was a member of Bethany Christian Church where he served as a Deacon.  Jim enjoyed traveling with Helen around the U.S. in their motor home.  He liked watching baseball and especially loved the Cleveland Indians. Jim was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed by those he loved.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Helen Clark; his children, Jackie Lantz (Donnie), Jeffrey Scribner (Connie), and Gregory Scribner (Debbie); granddaughters, Megan, Samanatha, and Marissa Scribner, Madison Lapides (Ben), and Hannah Lantz; great-granddaughter, Layla Lapides; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Veterans Care Center Staff on 1 East and the Salem VA Medical Center for the care and kindness they provided to Jim during this difficult time.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Oakey’s North Chapel with Chaplain Catina G. Martin officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Mr. Clark will receive Military Honors from the United States Marine Corps.  His burial will be private at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery.
