James Melvin Nichols Sr. of Roanoke, Va. Went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 10, 2023.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Nichols; his children, Teena Hamill, Jim Nichols Jr., and Terry Bosley; his grandchildren, Jessica Riggs, Nicholas Hamill and Austin Nichols; his brother, Sammy Nichols; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded  in death by his parents, George S. and Ruth B. Nichols; his wife of 54 years, Virginia Colley Nichols; and his 10 siblings, Flora, Georgia, Edna, Frank, Frances, Ralph, Charles, Gainor, Eleanor, and Robert.

Jim was born in Roanoke, served in the United States Navy, travelled the world as a Senior Engineer for C&P Telephone Company, and served at the White House during the Reagan Administration. He was devoted to God and his family. Jim was an avid golfer, loved to fish, and explore new places with his wife, Joan. He was deeply loved and will be missed by all he touched.

The Memorial Service will be held at  2 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Oakey’s North Chapel. Inurnment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
