Obituary for Jerry Farrar

Jerry Stephen Farrar went to be with his Savior on February 16, 2023.

Jerry was born in Roanoke, Virginia on August 31, 1948 to Norvell “Flea” and Dorothy Farrar.  He graduated from William Fleming High School in 1966 and attended Virginia Tech.  He was married to Sherry Brumfield Farrar for 43 years.  They went on to have 2 children Lisa Farrar Sarver (Scott) and Bradley Stephen Farrar (Shannon) and 5 grand girls Lindsey Sandy (Phillip), Rebecca and Kayleen Sarver, Janey and Gwyneth Farrar.

Jerry served in the US Navy from 1969-1973 as a 2nd Class Petty Officer at Communication Station Northwest and as Admiral Staff Commander Middle East Force on board USS LaSalle.

He was a longtime member of Melrose Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was a sports enthusiast and served as President and Baseball Director for over 15 years with the North Roanoke Recreation Club. He loved all things HOKIES especially tailgating and game day at Lane Stadium.  He loved hunting and fully enjoyed his membership at Catawba Hunt Club the last several years.

Jerry was preceded in death by wife Sherry and mother and father Dorothy and Norvell Farrar.

He is survived by his children and grandchildren, His brother Larry Farrar (Becky), brother- in- law Bill Brumfield (Mary K), sisters-in-law Angie Bower (Wayne), Cindy Smith (Jack) and Mindy Weaver (David) as well as many nieces and nephews.

The service will be held Saturday February 18th at 2 pm at Melrose Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Mofield officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12 noon-2pm prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.
