Obituary for John Horace Neighbors Jr.

After a long battle with Alzheimer’s, John Horace Neighbors Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia, passed from this world to his Heavenly home on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at the age of 86.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Connie Neighbors, and his parents, John and Lucille Neighbors.
Left to cherish his memories are his son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Angela Neighbors; grandson, Jonathan Neighbors; sister, Ann Briggs; along with a host of other family and friends.

John retired from directing at WDBJ 7 after 32 years of service and leaves behind many great friends from his hometown station family. He was a member of Greene Memorial United Methodist Church and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. After retirement, he filled his days caring for his grandson and serving his church.

In his younger years he loved playing golf, and later enjoyed watching it on tv. He had many animals through the years and loved spoiling them, including the squirrels that lived in his yard.

The family would like to thank Visiting Angels and Friendship Assisted Living for their kindness and great care over the last five years.

Graveside Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Evergreen Burial Park with The Rev. Joanna Paysour officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2021 at Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to Angels of Assisi, 415 Campbell Ave., SW, Roanoke, VA 24016.
