Obituary for Katherine "Kat" Overstreet

Katherine “Kat” Slingerland Overstreet, 51, of Bedford, Virginia, passed away suddenly to be with her heavenly father on Tuesday, January 17th, 2023. She was born in Ithaca, New York on Tuesday, July 20, 1971, to  Sharon and John Slingerland.

She graduated Romulus Central school in 1989 and Graduated from SUNY Cortland in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She loved to swim, played all school sports, played several musical instruments, and was active in band. She loved animals, especially her dogs (Nubs and Lola were her two sidekicks). She was very giving, extremely selfless, and would always put a smile on anyone’s face with her sweet sense of humor. She dedicated her life to her children as a wonderful stay at home mother and enjoyed bonding with her daughters over arts and crafts. She loved to bake, with her specialty being vanilla cake with chocolate icing. One of her favorite ways to spend a weeknight were dinner and movie nights with her two girls. There are not enough words to describe her sweet, beautiful soul.

She is preceded in death by Stephen and Frances Jenski (maternal grandparents) and John and Virginia Slingerland and Jane Trescott Slingerland (fraternal grandparents).

She is survived by her beloved husband Johnathan Chad Overstreet and children Miranda Lynn Overstreet (22), Emma Katherine Overstreet (19), and step-son Grayson Hunter Overstreet (27). She is also survived by her parents Sharon Anne Slingerland and John Reed Slingerland and Sister Patricia Slingerland Stubenhofer and brother Stephen Slingerland along with several nieces and nephews.

She will be dearly missed by many as she always brought joy to someone’s day no matter the circumstances.

We would like to thank everyone for all the love, prayers, and support. We know she is looking down with a full heart knowing her family is being so well taken care of.

We ask in lieu of flowers donations be sent to a GoFund me link to assist her children with funeral expenses. https://gofund.me/33219a6f
