Obituary for Kaylyn Perdue Thrush

Kaylyn Perdue Thrush, 23, passed away unexpectedly from a sudden medical emergency on Tuesday, October 31, 2023.

Kaylyn Michelle Perdue was born on May 31, 2000. She was raised in Franklin County, Virginia, by her parents Travis and Cris Perdue. Growing up, Kaylyn spent much time with her family and had an extremely close bond with her two sisters, Elizabeth and Gillian, and her grandparents, Ben and Kaye Perdue.

Kaylyn was quite the intellect and was always very mature for her age. In middle and high school she participated in award-winning robotics competitions, Odyssey of the Mind competitions, lighting crew for drama, was an avid reader, taught herself to crochet, and received highest honors for her academic success. She graduated from Liberty Christian Academy in 2018. Kaylyn went on to Radford University where she graduated on the Dean’s List majoring in Computer Science in May of 2022.

Kaylyn had a servant’s heart! She was known for always helping and serving other people. She volunteered in the nursery as a teenager, was always helping her family with ANY technical issue or need at a moment’s notice, was a friendly and helpful cashier at Kroger and Food Lion, and found a special passion for animals while working at the Roanoke Valley SPCA. She had a wonderful work ethic and was loved and appreciated by all who met her.

After she graduated from Radford University, Kaylyn went to work for Metis Risk Management as a Junior Software Developer. She was able to quickly showcase her skills and became an integral part of the IT team. Just this year, she completed a project where she was instrumental in its development and implementation. She was also given her first lead on a project. Everyone in her company recognized her abilities and willingness to give her best in everything she worked on as well as her warm and friendly personality.

On August 16, 2020, Kaylyn met the love of her life – Grayson Thrush. Kaylyn and Grayson connected like the last pieces to a puzzle that forms a picture of what true love really looks like. They met right at the halfway point of Kaylyn’s college years as she was beginning her classes at Radford University. Kaylyn always gave credit to Grayson for helping her get through her education in Radford. On October 27, 2021, Kaylyn and Grayson adopted their first fur baby, Boo. This began their love of cats. On July 1, 2022, the month after she graduated from Radford, Kaylyn and Grayson began the biggest chapter of their relationship. They found an apartment and moved in together. Shortly after, on August 22, 2022, they adopted their second cat named Tater. As their time living together continued, they experienced their first magical Christmas in their home. Their love drove them to spoil each other with gifts for the holiday. So much so that they even opened each other’s gifts early before Christmas and told their family that it was because Tater got into the presents. Kaylyn got to experience coming home on Valentine’s Day to not one, but two dozen roses in a vase along with chocolates and a home full of love. On April 15, 2023, on a romantic picnic date at the Salem duck pond, Kaylyn said “Yes!” and the couple were engaged. While planning for a wedding, Kaylyn surprised Grayson with fur baby #3, Loktar. On October 11, 2023, Grayson and Kaylyn set off to go to their destination of choice for their private ceremony, Cooper’s Landing Inn. On October 12th at 4 PM on a beautiful evening surrounded by the fall colors, two soul mates joined together in marriage. This is the happiest Kaylyn had ever been. She was perfect and her husband will miss her beyond measure.

Kaylyn was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Rudolph Ellis; George Roy and Edith Woodrow Perdue; Reese and Betty Schoonover. Kaylyn’s memory will live on by those who loved her including her husband, Grayson Thrush; parents, Travis and Cris Perdue; sisters, Elizabeth and Gillian Perdue; Grandparents, Ben and Kaye Perdue, David and Terry Schoonover; Aunt Casey, Uncle Marc, and Cousins Boden and Max Haren; Uncle Nathan Perdue and Larry Barrow; Great Grandparents, Georgia T. Ellis, Bill and Georgie Rakes; and many other family members as well as friends and coworkers. She also leaves behind her beloved cat babies: Boo, Tater, and Loktar.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at the Oakey’s Vinton Chapel with Pastor Greg Mills officiating.
