Obituary for Kinnie Austin

Kinnie Lee Austin, 66, of Roanoke County took the Lord’s hand and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Wednesday, December 28, 2022.  Kinnie’s faith and strength came from the Lord and knowing his short time on this earth was only temporary for his love, service and faith in the Lord would be his eternal home.

Kinnie was born in Roanoke, Virginia in November 1956 to Kinnie C. & Mamie V. Austin.  Kinnie was preceded in death in September of 2022 by his hero and his beloved father, Kinnie C. Austin.  He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, and many of his aunts and uncles.

Kinnie worked in the roofing and sheet metal business for his father until his health no longer allowed.  Kinnie worked for Steel Services for over 25 years and was currently employed by Tread Corp. in Roanoke where he leaves many dear friends and coworkers behind.

Kinnie loved racing and riding motorcycles with his family.  Kinnie’s favorite thing to do was hunting with his son, brother and nephews.  Kinnie harvested a 9 point buck in November this year.  Kinnie’s love for the Lord was strong and his faith brought him through many months of failing health but he knew this world was only temporary and his eternal home awaited him.

Kinnie is survived by his wife of 42 years, Rebecca Janney Austin; his daughter, Jessicia Lee Waymack (Jake); his son, Kinnie Cleveland Austin (Rebecca); his mother, Mamie V. Austin; brother, Carl D. Austin (Renae); grandchildren, Makenzie, Mason and Atlee Waymack, Danika and Kinnie S. Austin; brother-in-law, Larry Janney (Mitzi); sister-in-law, Elizabeth Woitereck; nephew, Carl D. Austin, Jr (Kristie); nieces, Marie Janney and Elisha Elmore (Robbie); and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and great nieces and nephews.  Kinnie also leaves behind his cherished and faithful furbabies, Colt and Luna.

The family would especially like to thank Bill East, our beloved friend and neighbor, Kinnie’s coworkers at Tread Corp., Dr. Mark Currie and his team, and the team at Sarah Cannon (LGH) Medical Center.

Kinnie asked that you take a kid hunting or fishing in his memory.  And in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital.
