Lana Jean Francis Tucker died Tuesday evening May 16, 2023. Lana was born October 4, 1950 in Williamson, West Virginia to Walter Francis and Nola Jean Marcum Francis.
She is survived by her husband David Oscar Tucker; sons David Harth Tucker and friend Jennifer Edmonson, and Joseph Walter Tucker and wife Leanne Elise Grafmuller; grandson Carson Harth Tucker; and sister Linda Carlene Francis.
Lana was a loving, smart, beautiful, and caring person as well as a devoted loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was the valedictorian of her high school, a degreed environmental scientist, and a Professional Engineer. She, with her husband, owned a successful business serving the IT marketplace for over 40 years.
Lana was a talented artist. Throughout her life, she enjoyed many creative pursuits including flower arranging, painting, drawing and jewelry making. Lana found a home in the St. John’s Altar Guild. She found there a loving nurturing group of women sharing with them a sense of beauty and dedication. Her caring patience and intelligence were seen in her tutoring of area students through St. John’s Community Youth Program.
Lana was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in September 2020. During her illness she was served by many caring healthcare professionals, in particular: Dr. Trevor Jolley, UNC Chapel Hill; Drs. Suzan Merten and Bret Adams and Matthew Manico PA-C, Blue Ridge Cancer Care; Dr. Braden Gregory, Carilion Family Medicine – Southeast; and the physicians and staff of Carilion Roanoke Memorial 8th floor ICU.
A memorial service will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Roanoke, VA on June 9th at 11:00 AM. A reception follows the funeral in the Parish Hall.
