Obituary

Leona was born on November 2, 1946 in Manhattan, New York to the late William R. Sellers and Edna Alice Kelley Sellers. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Johnson.

Leona and her parents moved to Wilmington, NC when she was a teenager. She graduated from New Hanover High School. Leona devoted her life to Jesus Christ at an early age. She was a housewife and a loving mother. Leona moved to Roanoke to be closer to her daughter. Leona was a member of Lighthouse Bible Church in Vinton where she attended regularly until her health declined.

Leona had a big heart and showed compassion to others. She was a published author who enjoyed writing poetry and reading to her neighbors at Friendship Health and Rehab.

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Pinckney Eller, her son-in-law, William Lynn Eller, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Oakey's North Chapel with visitation one hour prior. Interment at Old Dominion Memorial Gardens mausoleum. Pastor Roger Counts officiating.

From Leona's book, Tender Reflections :

ALPHA AND OMEGA
We all begin life miraculously microscopic.
Then we stumble and recover to our final destination.
As we stand on the brink of this new adventure, God watches and smiles.
I can hear Him saying, "I will do something great with this one."
From that moment He begins to refine and polish.
He will use joy as well as sorrow to banish false pride.
He will use suffering to give us compassion for the suffering of others.
He will teach us to seek His face as the only true comfort in our lives.
At the end of our journey we will stand at the gate of Heaven.
We will hear the most important words ever spoken,
"Well done my good and faithful servant!" As we enter the gate.
