Obituary for Leonard Rorer

Leonard Alvin Rorer, 79, of Salem and Wirtz (SML), Virginia, died at his home in Salem on Monday, March 6, 2023. He was the son of the late Germaine (Gerry) and Raymond Rorer of Salem, Virginia

Leonard graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1962. He served in the Army Reserves for 6 years. Leonard worked as a land surveyor for T P Parker & Son (Salem, Virginia) for 13 years followed by several years in West Virginia during the construction of Snowshoe Mountain Ski resort. Then, as a licensed land surveyor, he was employed at Dewberry & Davis in Fairfax, Virginia for 27 years. He had Department of Defense clearance and worked on many classified construction projects.

He was a member of West Salem Baptist Church and attended Fellowship Community Church for years before going to Smith Mountain Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gerri; his daughters and "sons", Vanessa and Shaine Miles and Danielle and Teddy Lineberry; his grandchildren,  Brock Miles, Alex, Cameron, Samantha and Fallon Lineberry; his brother, Jim Rorer (wife, Mary) of Advance, North Carolina; his brothers-in-law, Charles Kincer and Dana Kincer (wife, Lisa); his sister-in-law, Teresa Kincer; along with many nieces and nephews.

Leonard was a very private, patient, quiet, calm and humble man. He had a terrific sense of humor. Most of all, he enjoyed sitting on his dock fishing and watching the sun rise & set.  He was an avid bird watcher and kept track of nature at the lake.

Our gratitude and thanks to the healthcare professionals at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Friendship Transitional Care Unit, Enhabit Home Health and Good Samaritan Hospice for the care they provided.

Leonard's wishes were to be cremated and have no services. His ashes will be scattered at his favorite place.

In lieu of flowers, please honor Leonard by spending time outside enjoying the beauty God created.

"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace." Numbers 6:24-26
