Obituary for Lillian Shelley "Lil" Price

 

Lillian “Lil” Hayter Shelley Price, 92, of Salem, Va., completed her earthly mission and went home to the Lord on Thursday, November 2, 2023.

Known as ‘Lil” to her family and friends, she was born in Abingdon, Va RFD 4, to Ernest and Virgie Hayter and was the fourth of five children. Her siblings, Harry, Earnest, Robert, and Thelma, all preceded her in death.

Lillian grew up in Washington County, Va. She graduated from Meadowview High School. Lillian married Paul M. Shelley from Damascus, Va., with whom she had her beloved son, Barry T. Shelley. Paul died in 1986 after 40 years of marriage.

Lillian worked in construction accounting where she met her second husband, Robert L. Price Jr. They married in 2004 and enjoyed many years of traveling, going on cruises, and riding motorcycles. Lillian was a long-time member of Melrose Baptist Church and was a charter member and Past Matron of Etta Chapter No. 185 Order of the Eastern Star.

Lillian is survived by her husband, Robert L. Price Jr.; one son, Barry T. Shelley and wife, Lucy B. Shelley; two grandchildren, Lauren Shelley Tolley and Christopher P. Shelley; one great-grandchild, Charlotte Tolley; two stepchildren, Deborah Price Smith and Robert L. Price III; four step grandchildren, Seth, Aaron and Ben Price, and Geoffrey Price Smith; and three step/-great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 11 a.m. until 12 noon followed by a Service of Remembrance at 12 noon at Oakey’s North Chapel with the Rev. Mark Mofield officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
