Obituary for Lonnie Blaine Trainor Jr.

Lonnie Blaine Trainor, Jr. (83), of Roanoke, VA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on the morning of Sunday, January 15, 2023. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Shelia Wilson Trainor; his infant son, Eugene Blaine Trainor; parents, Lonnie Blaine Trainor, Sr and Mabel Virginia Blount; and, brothers, Roger Trainor and John Trainor. 

Lonnie is survived by his children, D’andrea Washburn, Travis Trainor and his wife, Mechelle; two granddaughters, Micah and Kendall Orange; three great-grandsons, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Lonnie was born on September 5, 1939. He graduated from William Fleming High School in the class of 1958. Lonnie served in the Virginia National Guard. He was also a proud volunteer at the Williamson Road Life Saving Crew for over 10 years. He retired from Norfolk Southern Corporation on May 2, 2001, after 30 years of loyal service. 

On April 5, 1963, Sheila Lynn Wilson and Lonnie Blaine Trainor, Jr. were married at Melrose Baptist Church in Roanoke, VA. They remained dedicated, lifelong members. 

Lonnie was especially fond of the time he spent with friends and family at the Peaceful Valley Hunting Club. He and Shelia were also avid travelers and undertook many adventures with their beloved friends and with members of Melrose Baptist Church.

Lonnie’s family would like to thank the loving staff at Hermitage of Roanoke for the many years of devoted care shown to him during his residency. Additionally, the family would like to thank the staff at Gentle Shepherd Hospice for the love and attention he received in his final days. 

The family will receive friends at Melrose Baptist Church from 10am to 11am on Monday, January 23, 2023. The funeral service will be held immediately after visitation at 11am on Monday, January 23, 2023 at Melrose Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by Pastor Mark Mofield and Dee Washburn. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
