Obituary for Louis "Kevin" Kays

L. Kevin Kays, 73, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 15, 2023.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Lou & Jo Kays, and his wife of 42 years, Mary Alice Kays.  He is survived by his daughters, Christa (Anthony) Janney, Kim (Matt) Sarver, two grandsons, Tanner and Landon Sarver, and many special nieces, nephews, and friends.

Kevin served in the United States Navy on an ammunition ship during the Vietnam War Era.  He was the ship’s barber, the Captain’s Personal Barber, and he was also the Ship Store Manager.

His working career spanned many companies, mostly working in Sales and Marketing.  He started his own business, Kevin Kays Insurance, because he loved to help people, going above and beyond for his customers.

He was a member of Christian Life International Church serving in the Music Ministry, playing guitar and bass, and singing in the choir.  He helped serve wherever needed including being apart of a Construction Mission Team to the Dominican Republic.

Kevin was an energetic man who never met a stranger. If you met Kevin, you made a friend for life. He had a fun-loving personality, and his smile was contagious. He lived a life of No Regrets.

He loved the Lord and loved his family.  He was always so proud of his daughters and grandsons.  He had a special bond with his favorite dog, Luke.

The family would like to thank all the staff at the Virginia Veterans Care Center for all their love, care, and support in caring for Kevin over the last 4 years.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Christian Life International Church, 1 CLI Way, Salem, VA 24153.  The family will receive friends from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Christian Life International Church Missions Team or the Music Ministry.
