Obituary for Marilyn Epperly

Marilyn Lee Epperly gently passed away in her sleep in the early hours of Sunday, August 16, 2020. She was at the home she was so proud of where she had lived since 1958.

Marilyn was born June 4, 1932 in Hinton, WV. Her parents were Herbert and Ethel Comer, also of Hinton. In 1952, she married her childhood sweetheart, Thomas A. Epperly, Jr (Tommy). They had been married 56 years when he passed in 2008. They had two children: Linda Epperly Brown, wife of Michael, and Thomas Epperly III, husband of Bobbi. Much loved are three granddaughters: Lindsey Rebecca, Meghan Lynn and Abigail Lee.

Marilyn worked as a telephone operator in Hinton and later a switchboard operator at Mountain Trust Bank in Roanoke. She was a long-time member of West End United Methodist Church. She loved serving as Secretary-Treasurer for the Roanoke Valley Coin and Relic Club for many years. Her hobbies were knitting and crocheting. Anyone who knew Marilyn understood how she loved to make lists: especially Linda and Thomas. She and husband Tommy loved RV camping, especially at the Outer Banks. They shared their home and their RV with many beloved dogs through the years. Her biggest accomplishments: her son and daughter.

A very special thanks to Medi Home Health and Hospice for their kind and loving
care.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Oakey's South on Friday from 6-8pm. Graveside service will be at Restwood Cemetery in Hinton, WV on Saturday at 11am followed by a gathering at the Magnolia Room in downtown Hinton.
