Maruma Rose Warren, 94, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, May 2, 2023.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James M. Warren, III; step-son, James M. Warren, IV; sister and brother-in-law, Sara Lee and Kenton Nicely; and brother and sister-in-law, Roth B. and Mary Alice Rose.
Maruma is survived by her son and wife, Mason C. and Dawn Deaver, son and wife, Ross R. and Faith Deaver; step-daughter and husband, Jane and Perk Hazlegrove; step-son and wife, Stephen C. and Wendy Warren; eleven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters and husbands, Lucretia and P. J. Fresquez, Sherrill and Phillip Ogden; and several nieces and nephews.
In 1947, she was one of the founders and co-owner of radio station, WREL, in Lexington, Virginia. In 1950, she became co-owner of WPUV in Pulaski, Virginia, and later co-owner of WHAR in Clarksburg, West Virginia. Mrs. Warren joined WSLS TV in Roanoke in 1965, and was the retired Program Director for WSLS TV.
A crypt side service will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 8, 2023 with Dr. Russ Merritt officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM till service time at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carilion Hospice and/or the RAM House.
