Obituary

Nancy Bloore Roberts, 80, of Martinsville, VA

Passed from this life into God’s loving embrace the evening of May 11, 2020. Nancy was known for her warm and generous spirit. She wanted everyone she met to feel at home and welcomed. Her presence will be deeply missed.

Daughter of the late John “Jack” and Cynthia Bloore. Nancy was born and raised in Long Island, NY and graduated from Mepham High School in 1957.

In her youth, Nancy enjoyed going to concerts and spending time at the beach. She was an avid water skier including slalom skiing, and she participated in and won several roller-skating competitions in the 1950s. Nancy enjoyed traveling and worked as an airline stewardess when she met and married the late McCluren W. Roberts Jr “Corky” in 1967. She and Corky had four children together and lived in New York, Minnesota, and throughout Virginia.

In her later years, Nancy had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed listening to music like John Denver, Josh Groban, and Neil Diamond. She loved flowers, gardening, knitting, owls, angels, reading the Bible, shopping, and all things chocolate. She cherished spending time with friends and her many beloved dogs and cat. She also enjoyed watching sports on TV, in particular the Baltimore Orioles. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

She went out of her way to provide her family with memorable birthdays and holidays, as she tried her best to make each person feel special and loved. Her family fondly remembers their mother’s dedication to going to all of her children’s sporting events and most recently, her grandchildren’s. She supported each of her children’s endeavors throughout their life and would do anything she could to help them.

Nancy is survived by her four children, McCluren W. Roberts III “Trey”, Scott J. Roberts (Paige), Keith A. Roberts (Maureen “Mo”), and Christine J. Kivett (fiancé Matt); four adored grandchildren, Sarah, Luke, Dylan and Carter; two brothers, Ernest (Nancy) and John (Betty); four nieces and one nephew, Deborah, Barbara, Pam, Beth, and Bill; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and many other devoted family members and friends.

Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date in a private ceremony. If you knew Nancy, you are invited to post a loving memory or a comment about how she positively impacted your life. If you have any photos of Nancy that you'd like to share, her family would love to see them.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Nancy’s name to The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), in order to help raise awareness of mental illness and provide support and education to individuals and families living with illnesses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression. Donations can be made at https://donate.nami.org.
