Nathaniel Baker “Nat” Patterson, 94, of Roanoke Virginia passed away at Friendship South Rehab Facility on March 11, 2023.  Nat was born in Roanoke to Nathalie Baker Patterson and Charles Bernard Patterson on September 27, 1928, and was the youngest of four children. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mickey, his parents, his brothers Bernard L. Patterson, M.D. and William Stevens Patterson, and his sister, Jean Patterson Givens. 

He is survived by his two children, daughter, Ann C. Patterson of Alexandria, Virginia and son, Allen B. Patterson of Roanoke, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Patterson was a proud graduate of Jefferson High School in Roanoke and Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina.  He began his career at Roanoke Photo, but spent many years at McClung Lumber Company in Salem as the Executive Vice President.  After Nat retired, he enjoyed working part time at Hanging Rock Golf Club and at Hidden Valley Country Club.  Nat and his family are members of Colonial Presbyterian Church in Roanoke

Nat loved people and music.  He played the piano often until last year.  He was an avid sports fan and a long-time member of Hidden Valley Country Club where he played golf regularly and always enjoyed a good card game with his buddies.   He loved living on Greenwood Road where he resided over 60 years, his wonderful neighbors, and spending time with his grand dog Jett.

The family is grateful to his neighbors and friends who have been so caring and supportive during the last few years especially Judy Neal and Tom Sease.

A private service will be held on Thursday at Evergreen Burial Park followed by a reception for friends and family at Hidden Valley Country Club.   In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those who wish to make a charitable contribution in Nat’s name consider The Presbyterian Community Center of Roanoke or the Roanoke Valley SPCA.  Online condolences may be made to the family at www.oakeys.com
