Norma
Cox
(Hartman)
March 2, 1933 – May 9, 2023
Norma Jean Cox of Greenwood, Ind., gained her Heavenly wings and eternal halo on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, after suffering a stroke while in the care of the wonderful staff at Aspen Trace Senior Living in Greenwood, Ind. where she had been living since 2020. She was an angel on earth to all that knew her and is now spreading love and happiness to those she loved who went before her.
Norma was born to Charles William Hartman and Ruby Belle Metz Hartman in Roanoke County, Va. She went to Clearbrook Elementary School and Andrew Lewis High School. She met the love of her life, William Austin Cox and they married on December 18, 1954. Their only child, a daughter, Kay, was born a few years later. They enjoyed camping trips, fishing trips (beach for Norma, fishing for Austin) to Virginia Beach and bowling with friends.
Norma worked in the offices of Kenrose Manufacturing and then later worked at ITT Electro Optical helping to make night vision goggles. She retired to spend time with Austin and visit her grandchildren in Indiana.
Everyone that knew or met Norma loved her. She would do anything for anyone and worried about everyone, even if she didn’t know them personally. She loved to bake, and her special Coconut cakes were highly anticipated by friends and family.
Waiting for her arrival in Heaven are her husband, Austin; her parents, Charles and Ruby; sister, Shelba Kirby; and beloved aunts and uncles along with many dear friends throughout her life.
Remaining behind to cherish her memory is her daughter, Kay Hlava and husband, Ed, of Greenwood, Ind.; grandsons, Dustin Hlava and wife, Kim, of Austin, Texas; Michael Hlava and wife, Amanda, of Fishers, Ind.; and her loving granddaughter, Emily Hlava of Greenwood, Ind. and Maui, Hawaii.
Emily was especially close to her Granny and loved to spoil her Granny by painting her nails and toes, dressing her with jewelry and just always fussing over her. Also surviving Norma are many nieces and nephews from both the Cox and Hartman families.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at Oakey’s South Chapel with services to follow at 11 a.m. Pastor Alan Clark will officiate. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park in Rocky Mount. Online condolences may be made at www.Oakeys.com.
