Obituary for Ora Farris (Pendleton)

Ora Odessa Pendleton Farris, 89, of Vinton, Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 24, 2020.

She grew up on a farm in Bedford County, Virginia where she was one of 14 siblings. Ora began her career as a seamstress with Kenrose Manufacturing. She loved children, and following her retirement from Kenrose, she chose to pursue a second career as a childcare provider at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital’s Boarding Nursery.

Ora was a devout Christian who always put everyone before herself and could never do enough for others. She was very creative and loved making crafts and jewelry for people she knew. Ora made everyone feel like family and was an inspiration to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Douglas K. Farris; parents, Griffin and Dolphus Pendleton; six sisters, Dolphus “Doris” St.Clair, Rosa Mae Heath, Eunice Pendleton, Ruby Richards, Irene Sheard, and Lois Donald; and seven brothers, Olin Pendleton (twin brother), Thurman Pendleton, Leonard Pendleton, Johnny Pendleton, Robert Pendleton, Jack Pendleton, and Horace Pendleton.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Bonnie Sue Farris of Vinton; her granddaughter, Holly Caitlin Farris of Roanoke; her daughter, Robin Farris Bush of Sierra Vista, Arizona; a special niece, Donna Heath Hall of Salem; and many additional family members and friends.

A Private Memorial Service, officiated by Pastor Tommy Figart, will be held with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date when it is safe to do so. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.oakeys.com.
