Orvil Willie Reedy, age 84, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at his home in Daleville, Virginia. His beloved wife, Roberta of nearly 70 years, and other family members were by his side.
Orvil was born in Roanoke, Virginia, on May 15, 1938, to his parents, Willie Harrison Reedy and Doris Mae Webley Reedy, who are undoubtedly rejoicing in Heaven with him now. Orvil earned his GED while providing for his wife and children beginning at the tender age of 16. He was successful at many jobs throughout his life including: police officer; painter; truck driver; and electrician. Orvil played the bass drum in his schools' bands, the National Guard 90th Army Band, and the Bedford Fireman's Band. Orvil received his 50-year Masonic pin from the Catawba Lodge No. 342.
Orvil is best remembered and known for his love of auto racing. He was the Maryland State Drag Racing Champion in 1964 in B-Stock and the Franklin County Speedway Champion in 1984. Upon his retirement from racing, Orvil continued to love the sport and very actively and enthusiastically supported both his sons and his grandson, Bryan, in their racing pursuits. Orvil was well known for his love of people and friendliness. He never met a stranger.
Orvil is survived by his wife, Roberta, his children, Tink Reedy and his wife, Debby, Sherry Reedy, Robbie Reedy and his wife, Kim, and Pamela Delph and her husband, Roy. Orvil is survived by his ten adored grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his aunt, Marie Webley, as well as numerous cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held in Orvil's honor on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Oakey's North Funeral Home, 6732 Peters Creek Road, NW, Roanoke, Virginia, 24019, at 2:00 p.m. Immediately following the service, a visitation celebration will be held at the same location from approximately 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
