Obituary for Owen Reed
Owen Warren ( O.W. ) Reed, age 80 years, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 9, 2020.
He was born in Roanoke, Virginia, a son of the late Camden G. Reed and Nellie Updike Reed having grown up in the Garden City area of Roanoke and was a 1959 graduate of Jefferson Senior High School. O.W. retired from General Electric after 37 years of service and was known to be able to fix anything and had his own appliance shop in addition to his working at GE. He was a great friend to many and was also known for his calming demeanor.
Family meant everything to O.W. and he was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Judith S. Reed. His three children, Carol R. McGuire, Mark W. Reed, and Julie R. Pietrzyk. His 13 grandchildren, Kelly, Nick, Spencer, Katie, Jessica, Jim, Hannah, Solona, Emry, Riley, Benson, Adler and Lane. And 15 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Wallace (Gene) Reed. He is also survived by his brothers, Earl Reed, Glenn Reed, and Jimmy Reed as well as two sisters, Shirley Reed Pinson and Nancy Reed Flowers.
He also had numerous nieces, nephews and many other loving relatives and friends.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at noon on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 in Evergreen Burial Park with the Rev. C. Nelson Harris officiating. Due to the current COVID -19 situation, social distancing guidelines will be observed.
