Obituary for Patsy Baker (Smith)

Patsy Glynn Smith Baker was born on October 21, 1931 in Commerce, Texas and died in Roanoke, Virginia on Monday, March 6, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Baker of Garland, Texas; her parents, B.D. and Pallie Mae Arrington Smith of Garland, Texas; and three sisters.

Mrs. Baker was a member of South Roanoke United Methodist Church, Roanoke, Va. She was an active member of the PEO Chapter AE, Roanoke, Va. She was a former Trustee of the Art Museum of Western Virginia, now the Taubman Museum of Art. She had been a leader of several Brownie and Girl Scout Troops in Roanoke, Va. and Schenectady, NY. She was a patron of The Roanoke Symphony and many conservation organizations. She was a world traveler, having gone to all seven continents and more than 75 countries. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and needlepoint.

Mrs. Baker is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Gregory Henley of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Carol and Christian Le Sesne of Halifax, Va., and Laura and John Flick of Roanoke, Va. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews too.

Memorial Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at South Roanoke United Methodist Church (SRUMC), S. Jefferson and 23rd Street, Roanoke, VA 24014. Interment will follow in the SRUMC Columbarium.
