Philip Hughes Martin

Philip Hughes Martin, 76, of Roanoke, Virginia passed away Tuesday January 24th, 2023.  Phil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed immensely by those who knew and loved him.

Phil was born to Charlie and Bessie Martin on March 2nd, 1946. He graduated from Fieldale High School in 1964 and later, Lynchburg College. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna Stegall Martin and his daughter, Erin Martin, both of Roanoke.  Phil also leaves behind two brothers, Don Martin (Gracy) and Gary Martin, two grandchildren, Elliot (14) and Reagan (12) as well as many nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.  Phil is preceded in death by his son, Todd, his parents, and brother Mike.

There was nothing that Phil loved more than spending time with family and friends.  He loved to fish, golf, play pool, tell stories, and make people laugh. He was happiest around water and sunshine, spending many of his days near an ocean, a lake, or stream.  He also enjoyed learning about history, particularly the Civil War era, and sharing countless stories of growing up with his brothers and friends in his hometown of Fieldale, Virginia.  Phil had an enormous heart and loved his family and friends immeasurably.  

The family will receive visitors on Saturday January 28th from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Oakey’s South Chapel in Roanoke.  Memorial contributions can be made in Phil’s name to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (https://fundraise.givesmart.com/vf/PFFTribute/PhilipMartin).
