Obituary for Phyllis Keith

Phyllis June Arnold Keith of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at the age of 93. She was born February 24, 1929, in Roanoke.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Curry Arnold and Elsie McGhee Arnold Nelson; her loving husband of 62 years, Luther Lee Keith; and her son, Douglas Lee Keith. In addition, she was also preceded in death by her sister, Frances Arnold Wertz.

Phyllis was an avid traveler. She visited 49 states in the United States. She traveled to many countries in her lifetime. Many cruises were also included in her love of travel along with friends and family. When not traveling, she used her “green thumb” to maintain flower beds at Airlee Court Baptist Church. Phyllis was a longtime member of Airlee Court Baptist before moving her membership to Cave Rock Baptist in Troutville, Virginia. She loved to grow flowers in her own gardens as well. She loved fresh flowers on her table.

Phyllis loved to play bridge with her many friends until macular degeneration destroyed her eyesight. One of her bridge friends, Butch Burrows, was a true friend to her. They enjoyed many good times together.

Phyllis is survived by her loving and devoted daughters, Judith Keith Ferrell (Barry) and Karen Keith Likens (Randy). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Stephanie Everett (Sam), Karie Gibson (Roger), Kim O’Conner (Wally), Kirk Likens (Ashley), Hope Threatt (Michael), Emily Allen (T.J.), Kelly Keith, Ryan Keith (Gabby), and Carmen Keith. She was a loving and devoted “GGMA” to her great-grandchildren, Hannah Everett, Kayla Gibson, Cameron O’Conner, Abbey Hendrix, Troy Everett, Erika Gibson, Aiden Likens, Austin Hendrix, Alli Likens, Kaylee O’Conner, Tyler Allen, Owen Clatterbuck, Emma Clatterbuck, Luke Threatt, Jace Clatterbuck, and a new arrival in June 2023.

Phyllis is survived by her brothers, J.D. Arnold and Don Arnold, and sisters, Sue Arnold Gibson and Sandra Painter. Phyllis is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Violet Keith and Rachel Craighead and many nieces, nephews and friends.
