Obituary for Raymond "Keith" Painter

Raymond “Keith” Painter of Roanoke (formerly of Bedford, Virginia) passed on April 28, 2021. He was born in Fayette County, West Virginia on August 26, 1934, the fourth of five children to Flora Thompson Painter and Joseph Jennings Painter. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers Charles (Wilda) Painter, Ronald (Sandra) Painter and sister Marian (Elmer) Schickner.

Those left to carry his memory are his devoted wife JoAnn Arrington Painter, daughter Nancy (Bob) Amick, son Joseph (Tracy Shirk) Painter. He is also survived by grandsons Nathan Amick and Robert Amick and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Special thanks to Sheri Gordon for loving care.

Keith was a graduate of Collins High School, West Virginia University, and Virginia Tech. He was a veteran of the US Army. He had a distinguished thirty year career in Extension Service at Virginia Tech. He was awarded many awards and was named Associate Professor Emeritus.

An active member of Bedford Baptist Church and Church of Hope in Roanoke. Keith was committed to service of his fellow man. He served the citizens of Bedford and Smith Mountain Lake. Keith was a determined man who achieved much and gave freely. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His personal mission was to leave anyone he met with a joke and a smile.
