Obituary for Robert Darragh

Robert Bruce (Bob) Darragh, 84, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully Friday, October 22, 2021, lovingly surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Huntington, West VA on December 22, 1936, a son of the late Genevieve Rumbaugh Darragh and Cecil Everett Darragh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest sister, Florence Darragh Jones (Flo); brother-in-law, C.W. Jones Jr (Charlie), and his brother-in-law, William Garst (Bill).
Survivors include his devoted wife of 43 years, Beth Darragh; his children, Susan Lyne and Sharon Violett both of Bowling Green, KY; Stepchildren, Alan Lacy (Shell) of Windsor, ME and Eva Lacy (Carsten Gorg) of Denver, CO; his sister, Cecilia Garst of Salem; his brother, Richard “Dick” Darragh (Nicolette), his sister, Sally Ewart (Johnny) both of Roanoke; 9 Nieces; Jeanne Anne Marsh (Hugh), Lori Deal (Richard) both of Statesboro, GA; Nicole Vinette (Jeff)of Canton, GA; Courtney McIntosh (Ian) of Australia; Cecily Tran (Hieu) of San Jose; Courtney Yeager of Roanoke; Mary Catherine Baldridge (Duke); Margaret Ann Ayers (Todd); 7 Nephews, Charles Jones, III of Atlanta, GA; Mark Jones; Bruce Jones (Margie) both of Statesboro, GA; Rick Garst of Cape Charles, VA; Russell Garst (Sherrill) of Salem, VA; Jeff Darragh of New Haven, CT; Scott Yeager (Margaret) of Germany; many great Nieces and Nephews; 3 Grandchildren, Alicia Lyne, Daniel Holland and Christina Embry; 5 Great Grandchildren, Alexis, Jaxon, Chariot, Nevaeh and Adam; 3 Great, Great Grand Children, Ariella, Annalise and Adaline.
Bob has been a devoted member of First Baptist Church for 43 years, having joined the Church in 1978 when he and Beth were married. During that time he enjoyed attending Sunday school. He was employed by General Electric and worked in the Engineering Department for 38 years until retiring in 1999. He had a quiet personality but loved a good joke. He enjoyed playing the game “aggravation” with his family and always looked forward to family celebrations. His main interests included: Ham radio operator, radio-controlled model planes, watching the Boston Red Sox and The Virginia Tech Hokies. While his family will miss him, we find comfort knowing that he is resting in peace and rising in glory!
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 4, 2021, in Faith Chapel at First Baptist Church at 10:00 AM. The Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 with Pastor Bryan Smith officiating.
