Shelby was a Grande Dame on Club Lane. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend. She opened her home to me and my sister when my parents traveled. She always made us feel so special. Her service to the community was also an inspiration to me. She was a wonderful lady. I love her very much, and she will always be in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with David and the family. We will miss our Shining Star. It was my pleasure to serve as state president of GFWC Virginia while Shelby was president of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, 2000—2002. Shelby started GFWC's Operation Firefighter campaign that raised $180,000 to purchase an ambulance for the New York Fire Department to replace one lost during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. So many accomplishments and so many lives touched. She was a gracious and loving woman. I'm so fortunate to have known and loved her.
