Shirley Jean Wells McCoy, 86, of Roanoke, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 20, 2023.

She was the daughter of the late Roy Wells Sr. and Ruby Wells. In addition to her parents, Shirley was also preceded in death by her husband of more than 40 years, Lawrence “Buddy” McCoy; children, Lawrence “Butch” McCoy and Timothy McCoy; four sisters-in-law; and three brothers-in-law.

Shirley will be forever loved and dearly missed by her brothers, Roy Wells Jr. (Carolyn), Donald Wells (Linda), Toby Wells (Nancy), Edward Wells Sr. (Sue), and Hilton Wells (Pam); sisters-in-law, Virginia Hedick and Linda Moore (Richard); brother-in-law, Algie McCoy; daughter-in-law, Jeannie McCoy; grandchildren, Megan McCoy, Taylor Smith (Dylan), and Kaleb Leginus; great-grandchildren, Grayson Smith and Addison Smith; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She graduated from Jefferson High School in 1956 and married Buddy McCoy on August 17, 1956. Shirley held various jobs at Victory Specialty, Mountain Wholesale and Sam’s Club throughout her career. She was a faithful member of Garden City Baptist Church.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at Garden City Baptist Church with the Rev. John Sweeney officiating. Interment will follow at the  Martin Family Cemetery in Roanoke. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
