Susan (Sue) Michael Elizabeth Gurley Boyle, 82, of Midlothian, Virginia, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023.

She was born in Massachusetts on November 22, 1940, and was the daughter of Martin H Jr. and Helen H Gurley. Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John W Boyle Jr.; her daughter, Deborah Boyle Aschoff; her siblings, Martin H III (Terry), William H (Billy), and Julie G Gurley; and sister-in-law, Barbara I Lemon. She is survived by her children, John W Boyle III and wife, Tamatha, and William (Bill) M Boyle and wife, Patricia; son-in-law, Steve Aschoff; grandchildren, William (Marty) and Weldon (Wellie) Boyle, Jacob and Jamison Hugenberg, Jessica, Jacob, and AdyJane Aschoff; sister, Prudence (Pru) Huddleston; brother-in-law, William J Lemon; and many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

Sue graduated from Radford University. During her leisure time you would always find a book in her hand. She also loved to play tennis, collect art, bake, and take photographs wherever they traveled all over the world, including Hawaii, China, Mexico, Ireland, Alaska, Australia, Egypt, and more.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel, 318 Church Ave. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Dr. George C. Anderson officiating. Interment will take place in Evergreen Burial Park upon conclusion of the service. A reception will be held at Oakey’s following all services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at act.alz.org. Arrangements handled by Oakey’s Roanoke Chapel.
