Obituary for Virginia "Boots" Coley (Wingfield)

Virginia (Boots) W. Coley passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 16.

She is the daughter of the late Alonzo Washington Wingfield and Laura DeLancey Wingfield. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Bernice P. Coley. She is survived by her children Cynthia C. Davidson, Brian L. Coley, Laurie C. Lynch (Andy), Jill C. Harbison (Doak), grandchildren Lark D. Miller (Don), Chase G. Davidson (Ally), Leah H. Wray (Noah), Luke W. Harbison, Schuyler P. Lynch, Ian A. Lynch, and greatgrandchildren Keaton A., Hudson Z., and Grayson W. Miller, and River C. Davidson, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Sim Wingfield, L.W. Wingfield, Jr. (Buck), Benjamin Wingfield, and her sisters Elizabeth Neal, Dorothy Bryson, Barbara Dedrick, and Joy Philpott.

Boots was born in Martinsville, Virginia on December 10, 1931, and resided in Roanoke.

She graduated from Martinsville High School. She attended business school and earned her secretarial credentials and worked at GMAC as a secretary. She worked for Roanoke County Schools for many years and served as the secretary of the Wingfield Family Society.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family and friends were the light and joy of her life. She extended unconditional love to those she cherished. She was extremely generous and was always willing to give her time, love, and attention to those who needed her.

Boots loved to travel and relished the outdoors, gardening and camping with family and friends. She was adored and will be missed tremendously.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her former son-in-law Ty G. Davidson, the caregivers from Good Samaritan Hospice, RMH Palliative Care, Dr. Mike Jones, Brother and Sister McGraw, Brother and Sister Lambert  and her church family for taking care of her and providing loving support to her family during this difficult time.

To celebrate the life of Boots, the family will receive friends and family on Tuesday, March 21 at Oakey’s South for visitation from 1-2 p.m., followed by a chapel service at 2 p.m. A private family interment will be held at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
